Ajax Control Toolkit installation crashes Visual Studio 2008

I am having trouble with a Visual Studio 2008 crash when I try to add the
Ajax Control Toolkit to my toolbox.

If I add a new tab to the toolbox, then right-click and select Choose Items,
Visual Studio stops working. Same if I right-click on an existing tab, or if
I choose Tools|Choose Toolbox Items from the main menu.

I have read some posts on the web that say it is the PowerTools add-in that
causes this crash, and removing PowerTools fixes it. I did not have
PowerTools installed in the first place. Just in case, I installed
PowerTools and uninstalled it, but this did not solve the problem.

I also uninstalled Visual Studio 2008 and re-installed, but no luck. Still
the same crash.

Any ideas for a workaround so I can get the Ajax Control Toolkit working on
this machine?

I'm having a crash on install. But I thought it might be a good idea to
mention here that the official site has a number of posters saying there are
unfixed bugs in the Toolkit going back many months.

I can't get this installed. I also noticed major flaws (like misspelled
folder names).

Arma, please respond as to whether or not running as Administrator fixed
your problem. I'm in XP, so if you are still having the problem it may not
be Vista-specific.

I have a Vista machine -- same problem. I was following along with asp.net
tutorial which included addin of the Ajax Control Toolkit. Couple of weeks
ago I was following along with the MVC tutortial chapter and downloaded
NerDinner. When I tried to open the View pages in VS 2008 sp1, VS did a
silent crash. However I do not have this problem with the solution that I
created myself (MyNerdDinner) - only with the downloaded solution.

I find it problematic that I can not addin to the VS toolbox.

Any fixes?

Thanks
