I have downloaded Visual Studio from Dreamspark.com and burned it on to a
disc. It downloaded perfectly to a laptop with XP but my new laptop is
Vista. It intalls the following perfectly and then fails:

Microsoft.Net Franmework v3.5 (x64)
Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 64bit Prerequisites (x64)
Microsoft Document Explorer 2008

The installation fails at Microsoft Visual Studio Web Aurthoring Component
and then I get a error message saying that an error occurred with setup. Has
anyone seen this problem and if so is there a fix? Thanks..

Let's see if I understand this correctly.

You've downloaded and installed pirated Microsoft software, and then have
the audacity (or it is just stupidity?) to come into a =Microsoft=
certification newsgroup (not to mention it's the *wrong* group) and ask for
assistance in troubleshooting your pirated software.

I stand corrected, and I apologize to Engirl09

============================
Microsoft Dreamspark
https://www.dreamspark.com

"DreamSpark is simple: it's all about giving students Microsoft
professional-level developer and designer tools at *no charge* so you can
chase your dream and create the next big breakthrough in technology - or
just get a head start on your career."
============================

The program requires that a student be registered at a listed academic
institution, and I'm pretty sure the "free" products carry Academic
Licensing EULAs along with them -- which, among other things as I recall --
restricts the results of such free product from being used for commercial
purposes -- i.e. you can't sell anything you build, you cannot use the
software for your employer, and you cannot use the software to do "work for
hire".

So, having become enlightened, I'll point out that this is not a support
forum for Visual Studio -- bur rather a support forum for those seeking
Visual Studio *certification*. Support questions should be directed to the
appropriate support forums at the MSDN website.

As for the installation failure on the Web Authoring Component -- I'd first
wonder if IIS had been properly installed on that Vista workstation.
